Thank you Malcolm, I think you have a good point about making the ordinary look beautiful especially as lately I’ve been trying to paint from a beautiful photo, only for my painting to look dull and disappointing 😅, perhaps I will surprise myself and take an uninspiring photo and turn it into a painting I’m pleased with🤩 I’ll check out your new book too! 😘

Just searched for this to watch again, it's been percolating at the back of my mind and when I sat down to do a little bit of morning painting I found myself realising that what would have been really uaeful was to have done a colour study first. It clicked into place what it's for and what it allows. Thank you so much. I'm going to have a look to see if you have any other colour study vids, that'd be cool.

Thanks again, Malcolm. Excellent video. I have been struggling with these issues. I went from using too much black-and-white to using no white at all, lol. And now with your videos, I’m putting color back in. If I could just mix color as quickly and efficiently as you do! 😂

Hi there, I’m working my way through all your videos, and your free courses too. Learning so much. Thank you hugely. All the techniques are challenging aren’t they when you first start. But after this length of time with you, I’ve come to realise the importance of applying brushstrokes cleanly, variedly (is that even a word 🤭) so finding this video has been a delight. Tomorrow im going to morston quay, north norfolk, uk, so I hope the weather is kind to me, and I can find a bit of it to simplify, with nice lights, shadows and angles and try to put into practice what you’ve been showing me. Did I say thank you 💐

Thank you so much for this painting. I always learn so much from you. I was particularly interested how you would approach the dappled light on the road and was happily surprised that you merely hint at it with a few simple gestures whereas I have been trying to recreate every little shape and nuance - with such disappointing results as you can imagine. Also, as ever, your references seem completely bland with no centre of interest and then - ta-dah - you make it the most interesting, colourful, beautiful painting one could ever hope for. Amazing!!
